Our school is honored to be named after James Arlie Montgomery, a hero who was a custodian at Edgar Allan Poe Elementary. On Tuesday, September 15, 1959, a deranged intruder detonated a bomb on the playground of Poe Elementary. It is believed that Montgomery lost his life protecting the children by preventing the intruder from entering the building. James Arlie Montgomery Elementary opened in 1960, honoring Mr. Montgomery. 

Nuestra escuela tiene el honor de llevar el nombre de James Arlie Montgomery, un héroe que trabajaba como conserje en la Escuela Primaria Edgar Allan Poe. El martes 15 de septiembre de 1959, un intruso con problemas mentales detonó una bomba en el patio de juegos de la escuela Poe. Se cree que Montgomery perdió la vida protegiendo a los niños al impedir que el intruso ingresara al edificio. La Escuela Primaria James Arlie Montgomery fue inaugurada en 1960 en honor al Sr. Montgomery.
